[fandom snowflake][#2 fannish history]
Day 1, introduction.
(nb I am on Twitter all day long; please feel free to come yell with me there.)
I discovered fandom existed because of wanting more Willow/Tara (look, I told you I was old). I had been on Diaryland, but once I started nudging at fandom I got a LJ invite from a friend from work (remember LJ invites?) apparently in 2002, & started writing in 2003 with lotrips.
My top fandoms for writing numbers-wise are still lotrips, Harry Potter, and Buffy, but I love me a small fandom and between Yuletide & variations on FemslashEx over the years I have racked up a LOT of them.
I love an AU, I love a crossover, I love brothers(of any gender)-in-arms.
I had fallen out of fandom in a big way, from 2008 onward basically all I wrote was Yuletide & Femslash, and I didn’t really read much either. Maybe a spurt here or there, reading stuff by friends or my gift from a challenge or a few things in a new fandom (like, I could talk all day about audiofiction and I have). I don’t quite know why that happened; probably a combination of people moving to Tumblr + life.
I was still *fannish*: attending Geek Girl Con, made a Captain America dress & a Stormpilot hat, that kind of thing, but not so much with the fic until Good Omens aired and zapped me right back into it this summer. It was a perfect storm of an old comfort fandom + 2019 being a bad brain year *and* a year where I was sick a lot, so sitting around on AO3 and trawling through years of recs was really appealing.
Even that would’ve tapered off quickly, but then my friend started DMing me clips and stills from The Founder of Diabolism and The Untamed, and now here we are, with Cdramas in general taking over my life and with me writing more in the second half of 2019 than I have since like 2005.
I have a lot of ideas for CQL & CQLRPS, plus even though the show is objectively terrible I’m having some predictable Guardian feelings (the fic is great; I definitely have stuff I want to write). And Douyin exposed me to Thai BL which is basically filmed fanfiction, so somehow I devoured all of TharnType, a thing about which I have a lot of complicated feelings but also please give me all of the fic, both Tharn/Type and Mew/Gulf thank you.
So, I guess that’s why I’m doing this Snowflake thing at all - I have things I’m fannish about, but no one to be fannish with!
