re: The mutual friend thing.
I think it is a good compromise for the people who wanted to have the ability to disassociate themselves from certain people (ie. ban them) which reeked of stupid-petty-teenage-drama-queen-cliquishness far more than legit anti-stalking issues.

[identity profile] marginalia.livejournal.com 2004-04-25 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah, i think so. the claims that it's stalking is crap, i think, but . .i already wrote an entry about that. it's all about the drama and i hate drama.

which is why i think i'll go back to having the undivided friend-of list. it's interesting, but for me, the people that are NOT mutual friends, it's really just a time issue. if i'm gone a day it takes me FOREVER to catch up, because i really do try to read every entry.

[identity profile] arbie.livejournal.com 2004-04-25 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree. It's usually just drama but I suppose in a few isolated cases knowing that an armed to the teeth ex is making their presence known could be scarier than not knowing they are there. But as I said before, if that's your situation then I'd be filtering carefully, or hell, maybe not even post publicly. I mean is spewing thoughts to the world so important?
I understand the time issue (and my flist is a lot smaller than yours, I like to read everyone...and all the comments, and some journals of people who post interesting comments...yada yada. Takes forever, even if I do skip most of the fanfic.

well, and i might be wrong, but i think if you ban someone from your journal, then you can boot them off of the friend-of list. i think there are some measures in place for actual, not-drama issues.

thank you for pointing this new feature out to me, but--*cries and cries*

WHY WON'T THEY LIFT THE FRIENDS LIMIT? :((!

[identity profile] marginalia.livejournal.com 2004-04-27 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
that i do not know. has there ever been any discussion about it? it's such an arbitrary number.

all i know is that the directory thing is really annoying. i can see how they would want to limit the number of friends that show up on the default info page, but you should be able to get the full list in "full info", not the damn directory. and if i had over . .whatever the number is . .i'd still want to be able to see the personal/community/syn breakdown
