drabble: blank - gilderoy lockhart

[blank] - gilderoy lockhart
part of dorrito's every flavour mood beans. hey, it's after midnight. and i'll be gone all day tomorrow.

"That should do nicely," he says. "Our readers will love this."

He gathers his quills with one hand and reaches for his wand with the other as they turn back to their tea. His "Obliviate!" is almost conversational.

They all blink empty eyes, smile vacant smiles and wait to remember who he is. "It's unfortunate you weren't interested, but our representatives will be in the area again soon if you change your mind." From their doorsteps, he Disapparates.

There was once a twinge of conscience, fading guilt, but he has pressed it down, sheer will stronger than any memory charm.

I think that's my favorite line right there. That feels so right. That's the "Obliviate!" of a man who has been doing this for a very long time. And his little speech for them to remember. So. Perfect. And the last line. GAH.

Dude, this is brilliant.

[identity profile] marginalia.livejournal.com 2004-12-07 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
i thought it was pretty brilliant myself ;) but really - that's one of my favorite things about fanfiction - being able to go back and look at moments like that and still make them fit what we know. and. things. thank you :D

I really like this one - something different, and so perfect for the mood.

There was once a twinge of conscience, fading guilt, but he has pressed it down, sheer will stronger than any memory charm.

That is just so right for him.

[identity profile] marginalia.livejournal.com 2004-12-07 03:02 pm (UTC)(link)
thank you! i like trying new characters :)

[identity profile] meganberrieh.livejournal.com 2004-12-05 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
The fact that you had the prompt 'blank' and did a Lockhart drabble is just further proof that you are one of the most brilliant HP ficcers out there.

*takes a bow*

That made me shiver, really.

Great job with the dialogue.

Lockhart creeps me out. heh.

[identity profile] marginalia.livejournal.com 2004-12-07 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
see? he is totally creepy. i always figure that there has to be more to characters except draco

0:)

[identity profile] shinyredtype.livejournal.com 2004-12-07 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
*smirk* You've been writing a bit of Draco for this, I notice...

[identity profile] marginalia.livejournal.com 2004-12-07 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
well, y'know, it's not my fault he's a bitch ;) and i -asked- melinda to talk me out of it and she -failed- ;)

[identity profile] shinyredtype.livejournal.com 2004-12-07 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I think you just have a soft spot in your heart for Draco and don't want to admit it. :)

[identity profile] marginalia.livejournal.com 2004-12-07 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
yes . . .there's this rotten bit i keep meaning to have seen to ;)

[identity profile] marginalia.livejournal.com 2004-12-07 03:42 pm (UTC)(link)
dude, i miss you too! i have a devil of a time remembering that i am so freakin' far away. like tonight, i'm all "ooh! TAR! i could watch with . .oh, wait. am in spokane. fuckses."

[identity profile] shinyredtype.livejournal.com 2004-12-07 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I know! :( I always think about how I should stop by, and then I remember. Please return soon!

[identity profile] marginalia.livejournal.com 2004-12-07 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
vee shall seeeeeeeeeee

i have to come and show off the girly scarf i knitted this week. woo.

[identity profile] dacro.livejournal.com 2004-12-07 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
heh.
Because I love you, I'll ignore that last bit.
;)

Lockheart has always given me the willies. He's painted as fairly harmless, but there has to be something more to a person who steals memories. I wanted him in azkaban.

[identity profile] marginalia.livejournal.com 2004-12-07 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
well, and i come from the buffyverse, where memory modification was Definitely a Bad Thing. i feel like in the hp verse it's a little bit naughty when you do it to other wizards, but when you do it to muggles it's a-ok. and that pisses me off.

[identity profile] dacro.livejournal.com 2004-12-07 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)

oh I know! That's always bothered me too. Maybe it's just another tool to show the 'class distinction' between Wizards and Muggles.
I'm with you. Tara had every reason to leave Willow!

wait...what are were talking about?

heh! *smooch*

::shivers:: this is so creepy. this reveals him as the villain he really is, it seems to me. he can kind of sneak by in the CoS because he provides comic relief. but when you really get down to it, like you did, he's awful.

and i don't do pity feedback so don't even. :P

[identity profile] marginalia.livejournal.com 2004-12-07 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
and i love taking another look at folks who sneak by. that's a huge part of the appeal of fanfic for me. thank you!

i believe you *heart*
