dorrito's every flavour mood beans
today melinda and i are pleased to begin

the history
lo, so many years ago in fandom time, the unholy union of
anniesj and
circe_tigana created mood rings: 132 celebrations of lotrips (which is, unfortunately, flocked at the moment) ETA unlocked now! go! read!
and i looked at that and thought "dude, insane," followed quickly by, "dude, i want to do that." it bopped around in my brain for a while, then
dorrie6 and i did waiting: the prisoner of azkaban drabble project.
but it was finished so quickly. we never really got over it. and so beginning today (because it's the day PoA comes out on dvd . .at least in the states), we're proud to offer dorrito's every flavour mood beans. after this we will never want to write drabbles again, so get 'em while they're hot.
the project
we're doing things a little differently. we have strong opinions about drabbles, so each will be exactly 100 words. as with the poa drabbles, i'll be maintaining a master list of links in this entry.

dorrie6's drabbles can also be read via her tag here, and
marginalia's via her tag here.

After a hellish 4 weeks of CARMEN, this project is a lovely way to get back into the fandom swing.

When I write a drabble, I start with some small thing I want to show or say, something I think I could tell in a small amount of words. When I first started writing them, I usually just wrote the story and then went back and edited for word count, really evaluating each word and whether it was necessary to tell the story, or whether there was a clearer, more concise way of saying something. I'd whittle and whittle until I had 100, and then I'd see if it still worked.
Nowadays I tend to edit as I go, and I find I have to edit less, as I've become used to being economical with words. I find that often an action speaks volumes, and is more powerful than inner monologue or even dialogue. I find that simple statements are stronger than those with a lot of qualifiers involved. Both these things are vital to this type of short storytelling. And the story is the key, really. In the end, you just want to be sure your story is told.
Now that I've typed this it seems really lame. Er. Wait for Jaci.
