marginalia: (young tony)
1) My CM was NOT recalled THANK FUCK so she lives to fight for the working class another day and also we didn’t have to run a Council appointment process over two major holidays, under two Council presidents, and during extreme winter weather and omicron. Bless the Kshama Solidarity street team, a bunch of goddamned angels.

2) The Mayors (one outgoing one incoming) extended wfh until "Spring of 2022" whatever that means. Technically my department still waiting to find out a) who Council President will be and b) if they will also extend it, but Council I think would be thrilled to never go back to City Hall, so I’m not worried about it.

3) It snowed this weekend and is going to snow again, but since our Covid numbers had a 195% increase, I don’t want to go anywhere anyway so it’s fine.

4) My greatest accomplishment this week was tracking down a Christmas-themed fic that had been deleted from AO3. I should have downloaded it the second time I read it. I am an idiot & a scraper + Google cache saved me.

5) I thought there was a fifth thing but apparently not.

Here, have the 2021 Fandom Meme, stolen from [personal profile] aphrodite_mine

Your main fandom of the year?

It’s like... how do you define fandom? In terms of fic I read, CQL. In terms of fic I wrote, lol. In terms of hyperfixation, Chuang + INTO1.

Your favorite film you watched this year?

Titane! (I am going to do my annual film post - stay tuned! I’m also going to revive the film blog, even though omicron has me feeling antsy about the movies again,)

Your favorite book read this year?

The Secret to Superhuman Strength, Libertie, Mexican Gothic.

Your favorite album or song to listen to this year?

To the Late You & The Bottle and the Polisher. Both of which were in last year’s The Coming One, but whatever it’s fine I heard them this year and that’s what matters.

Your favorite tv show of the year?

Okay, so. In BL, A Tale of Thousand Stars which letterboxd tells me I’ve watched FOUR TIMES. In the real world, probably Beyond Evil or Vincenzo. Also I’m not saying Go Go Squid is good, but it kept me from giving myself to the sea, and then I went and watched everything else Lee Hong Chi has ever done, so THAT part was probably good.

Your best new fandom discovery of the year?

Survival shows.

Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?

I don’t know if it’s a disappointment, because obviously I was never going to participate in it, but the toxic elements of cpop fandom were sure a revelation. I just want to love all these sweet boys! Why is everyone so mad all the time?!

Your biggest squee moment of the year?

Getting up at 3am to watch the Chuang finale live.

The most missed of your old fandoms?

Any that I shared with you folks! I am just off in my own fandom world these days.

The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to?

Nirvana in Fire I suppose, in that it looks like the subbed version is back on Viki, so if that’s true I plan to start it again in the new year. (I dropped it early on because of a) pandemic brain and b) I had to download the subbed version, so I was watching it on my laptop which I fucking hate, but it had nothing to do with the show itself.)

Your biggest fan anticipations for the coming year?

I have no idea. I can’t wait to find out what the next hyperfixation will be. It’s hard to get excited about Cdramas because you never know if they’ll come out or not (let alone when!), but I am looking forward to Checkmate, a Republican-era Poirot adaptation starring Hu Yitian & Zhang Yunlong, also from the director of My Roommate is a Detective, that’s shooting right now. & of course I’m looking forward to Moonlight Chicken, Earth & Mix directed by P’Aof again, what joy! And there's the Tony Leung & Wang Yibo propaganda film, lol.

& that is that!
